Trader Joe’s: 9 Best Items To Buy To Save Money in July 2024
By Heather Taylor,

Shopping at Trader Joe’s this July? Chances are pretty high your grocery list has more seasonal items on it than usual, especially foods and treats needed for summer cookouts, which could easily result in spending beyond your budget .
There are certain items that shoppers will want to buy from Trader Joe’s this month because similar items are much more expensive at big-box retailers and grocery stores. GOBankingRates carefully conducted price comparisons for popular Trader Joe’s summertime items versus pricey counterparts sold elsewhere to determine what to add to your July grocery shopping list and save money.
Brand name cereal at most grocery stores is now at least $5 or more per box. Shoppers picking up Trader Joe’s organic peanut butter and cocoa crunch not only save a little extra money with its $3.49 price tag, but they also get to enjoy a bowl of gluten-free crunchy, flavorful cereal as the most important meal of the day.
GOBankingRates did a lot of reading on Trader Joe’s newest offerings and found some of them aren’t necessarily cheaper than similar items sold elsewhere.
In trying to determine a cookout pick that’s also budget-friendly for this roundup, we chose to highlight Trader Joe’s turkey burgers. With four burgers inside every package, shoppers only wind up paying 95 cents per burger. Who can top that deal for cheap and satisfying turkey burgers?
If your budget this month can’t quite stretch to afford the pulled chicken salsa verde at Trader Joe’s ( $8.99 per 16-ounce container), swap in a slightly less expensive substitute with Trader Joe’s BBQ pulled chicken.
Also available in a 16-ounce portion, the BBQ pulled chicken comes slathered in hickory smoke-flavored BBQ sauce. Best of all, there’s no grilling necessary. Heat this marinated chicken up and serve ready to eat on a bun or solo to dip with tortilla chips.
Looking for a quick and easy side dish to bring with you to a BBQ summer cookout or potluck event? You’ve found it in Trader Joe’s lemon herb macaroni salad.
Compared to macaroni salad purchased at deli counters which can often be quite expensive, this 12-ounce container stays firmly under $4 without sacrificing taste. According to the Trader Joe’s website, the taste locks in a lemon zest with an herb component and semolina elbow macaroni to anchor everything together.
Swap out an expensive Thai takeout night with Trader Joe’s Pad See Ew. This dish, which translates to “fried with soy sauce” is described as a variation of chow fun for a rich, vegan dish.
At $3.79 each, pad see ew is easy on the wallet to stock up on for dinners and WFH lunches and easy to cook too.
Trader Joe’s rainbow’s end trail mix bars are one of the cheapest offerings shoppers will find at the store this month.
We had to zoom in on the packaging to make sure we were reading it properly. Five trail mix bars loaded with peanuts, almonds, raisins and milk chocolate gems for under $1? That’s about 20 cents per trail mix bar. It’s a deal rivaling what shoppers would pay if they purchased trail mix bars in bulk at a warehouse club!
In 2018, CNBC Make It shared an article about how much it would cost you to make s’mores using traditional ingredients. The amount then was $12.50 — and there’s no doubt the cost has gone up significantly since then.
Meet the Trader Joe’s S’mores Clusters, which save shoppers a little bit of everything this summer. Saving money on s’mores ingredients at $3.99 per bag and saving money on the cost associated with heating up and cooking s’mores since there’s no assembly required.
Summer 2024 is already pretty hot out, which means your freezer needs a box of Trader Joe’s out of this world ice pops handy.
Not only are these seasonally appropriate in red, white and blue coloring, but the ice is lighter to enjoy than traditional ice cream. Each box includes six pops, which comes out to paying around 55 cents per pop. Cheaper than a visit from the ice cream truck.
You can order an Aperol Spritz (which might cost around $17 or more) at a bar, or cut costs without sacrificing one of summer’s most enjoyable cocktails.
Trader Joe’s Aperito Spritz comes packaged ready to drink in six individual bottles. Speaking of those six bottles, the $6.99 price tag means you’re paying about $1.17 per bubbly beverage. We’ll drink to those affordable prices. Cheers!
