(PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo.) — Officials in charge of planning the Oak Ridge Fire response held a press briefing on Saturday, June 29, and shared the current status of fighting the fire, as well as future strategy. The video of the briefing can be watched at the top of the screen, but below is a summary.

“A lot of good work took place yesterday,” said Matt Holte, Planning Operations Section Chief for the Oak Ridge Fire.

Crews continued to maintain the perimeter at the northern edge of the fire, allowing time to prepare a fire line in better terrain and extend the cleared area west into the 2016 Junkins burn scar.

The eastern edge was secured and pushed south towards the Soldier Park area to prevent the fire from advancing east towards Beulah, enabling crews to push west.

On the west side, crews are creating a fire line to establish a stopping point. Fire crews on the west and south are working to connect the fire lines on the southwest side.

These efforts enable crews to introduce fire on their terms, creating a secure area to protect nearby communities now and in the future.
