GA 365 South at Demorest Mt. Airy Highway has reopened following a two-vehicle crash involving a church van. The wreck sent at least eight people to the hospital, including a teenage boy who was airlifted to Egleston Hospital in Atlanta, officials say.

Several of the injured, including the teen, were aboard a van owned by River Point Community Church in Demorest. The other vehicle involved was a Toyota 4-Runner. Church members tell Now Habersham the group had been on a mission trip and was returning to the church when the accident occurred.

The collision was reported to Habersham County E-911 around 1:39 p.m. Saturday, June 29. The crash shut down the southbound lanes of GA 365 near the intersection. The road remained closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash.

According to Habersham County Emergency Services spokesperson Rob Moore, EMS transported four people to the hospital by ambulance, and three others were taken by private vehicle. Several other people sustained minor injuries but were not transported.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash. Now Habersham has reached out to GSP for additional information and will continue to update this story as new details are released.
