People are gobsmacked to find out Pepsi's original name , which was short-lived. In the epic soda pop battle of Coke versus Pepsi, one fact remains as fizzy as ever - nothing beats an icy cola on a hot summer day. However, what's bubbling up recently is that Pepsi wasn't always known by its current iconic moniker.

Back in 1893, North Carolina's Caleb D. Bradham concocted this popular drink and initially peddled it under the moniker "Brad's Drink" while working at a local pharmacy post his uni days. The lore of Pepsi's original name has been fizzing up online, with folks only now discovering this tidbit. One shocked social media user expressed their amazement: "I just learned that Pepsi was originally called Brad's drink'," they exclaimed on X (formerly Twitter).

"So anyway, I'm going to be reeling from that for a week or so.". Another user quipped about the old-school name revelation, saying: "Brad's Drink sounds like the name of a 90s alt-rock album." Meanwhile, a third added in sheer surprise: "What? ? ? Oh my god." and another simply proclaimed: "Great name! ".

As for Pepsi, it didn't stick to its initial branding for too long. About half a decade in, Bradham snagged the decently catchy 'Pep Kola' name from a neighboring rival before switching it to Pepsi-Cola.

The single-word business name 'Pepsi' came into play only in 1961, quenching millions of thirsts worldwide under its snappier title.

Some language gurus point out that the name Pepsi is derived from the Greek word , suggesting 'digestion'. True to its origins, by 1904, the beloved fizzy drink was being promoted with the catchy slogan: "Exhilarating, Invigorating, Aids Digestion."
