Storm damages buildings, trees in Geary, Osage counties

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (KSNW) — The storm that hit Junction City Friday night caused a lot of damage. Several inches of rain caused street flooding, and strong winds downed trees and power lines.
Geary County dispatchers say a vacant building in the 600 block of N. Washington partially collapsed. They do not have any reports of injuries.

Trees and tree branches are down, taking some power lines with them and damaging some homes and vehicles.
Geary County Public Works says the landfill will be open again on Sunday for tree and brush disposal.

Utility crews were busy Saturday morning restoring electricity to areas of the city that lost power.

Hildebrand Farms Dairy, near Junction City, says it has extensive damage. The family said employees and neighbors showed up and helped with the cleanup.

In Osage County, Melvern Lake has damage. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the Coeur d’Alene beach and picnic area are closed until further notice due to tree damage. The goal is to reopen in time for the upcoming holiday weekend.

There is also damage at Melvern Lake Marina. Officials posted on Facebook that the marina is closed indefinitely. They hope to get it reopened soon.
