Mercedes Mone Has Creative Control In AEW Because It Went So Well For WCW

We have Mercedes Mone bragging about having creative control in AEW, but remember, that same mindset is was a factor in WCW closing.

After departing WWE, there were lots of talk about Mercedes Mone (then, known as Sasha Banks). WWE tried to bring her back, with no luck. Basically, she was tired of the WWE treatment and wanted to see her value elsewhere. She briefly worked for NJPW before an injury sidelined her for months . After all the talk and speculation, she signed with Tony Khan’s AEW .

Ahead of Forbidden Door, TMZ Sports caught up with Mone. She went over her time in AEW and revealed Tony Khan gave her total creative control. “I feel like here at AEW all of my dreams and opportunity is just endless,” said Mone. “Of course, being the TBS Champion and this Sunday at Forbidden Door I’m about to be two-time champion. So yes, this little creativity that I have of taking all the belts and going global, it’s beautiful. Yes I have creative control but I work with Tony Khan very closely. So, it’s a great combo.”

Tony Khan Should Not Have Given Mercedes Mone Creative Control

At Forbidden Door , Mone will look to add the NJPW Strong Championship to go with the TBS Championship when she faces Stephanie Vaquer. For now, she is clearly the betting favorite and seems set to leave with two belts. Working with AEW and NJPW was a major selling point for Mone leaving WWE.

Although, I need to disagree with giving anyone having creative control. WCW did the same with their stop sters like Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage . In the end, that was one of the major factors in them going out of business. When a wrestler can decide when they win and loss, they usually take the victory. Therefore, it does not help anyone and can destroy a company. So, should Tony Khan have given Mercedes Mone creative control in AEW?
