12-year-old reunited with stolen bike, investigators still looking for alleged suspect

DENVER (KDVR) — A 12-year-old boy was reunited with his bike that was stolen, and deputies are still looking for the suspected thief.

On June 19, the boy, Alex, locked up his bike in front of the Walmart on Coalmine Avenue. He went inside to buy some fishing tackle, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office said the suspect saw the bike, went into the store and stole bolt cutters, then cut the lock and stole Alex’s bike.

A little over a week later, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office found the bike and returned it to Alex, however, the suspect has yet to be found .

“We are happy to announce that we recovered the bike in perfect condition! Alex was thrilled when Investigators Clarkson and Gist returned the bike to him,” the sheriff’s office said in a post on X.

The suspected thief is described as a white man, he was wearing a blue t-shirt, blue or black shorts, white tennis shoes with black short socks, and a black and white baseball hat at the time of the theft.

“Although we recovered the bike, we are still working to identify the thief from the low-quality images we have to work with,” the sheriff’s office said.
