Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has previously expressed his admiration for Anthony Gordon - but also criticized the winger's penchant for taking a tumble.

Gordon, 23, was one of the Premier League's most deadly wide forwards last season at Newcastle but the Reds were offered the chance to sign the England international as the Magpies scramble to comply with profit and sustainability rules before June 30. As outlined by The Mail, Liverpool do hold an interest in Gordon, who is currently away at Euro 2024.

But talks broke down, though, due to Liverpool's reluctance to entertain the idea of sending Jarell Quansah in the opposite direction as part of a swap deal. And with Newcastle agreeing deals to sell Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively before the PSR deadline, it seems they will no longer need to sell Gordon to comply with the regulations.

In the wake of Liverpool's interest in Gordon, Carragher's previous comments on the former Everton man have resurfaced following an incident during the Merseyside derby back in 2022. Speaking while on commentary duty for Sky Sports, Carragher criticized Gordon for throwing himself to the ground after Naby Keita overstretched in the penalty area before suggesting that habit had made him a player people now needed "to keep an eye on".

Carragher said: "Anthony Gordon has been a revelation since Frank Lampard came in. He just jumps over Naby Keita's outstretched leg. There's been a tendency of this from Anthony Gordon, in the few games we've seen him. He's frustrated, he can't believe it... but that's crept into his game. He's somebody we've got to keep an eye on now."

Last season, Gordon bagged Newcastle's Player of the Year award after netting 11 goals and providing 10 assists in 35 Premier League appearances. The Magpies snapped him up in a £45million deal just a year and a half ago.

A lifelong Liverpool supporter, Gordon is content at Newcastle but he's aware that discussions between the two clubs have occurred. Paris Saint-Germain are also rumored to be interested in him.

Liverpool hasn't made any signings under Arne Slot since the Dutchman took over from Jurgen Klopp . However, it's anticipated that the Reds will strengthen their squad and they've been linked with midfield reinforcements.

Despite having a wealth of options in the wide attacking positions, Luis Diaz has been associated with a move away this summer. Barcelona are the most recent team to show interest in the Colombian international, who found the back of the net eight times in the league last season.
