Shaquille O'Neal Takes Ruthless Shot At Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons' rating in NBA 2K25 has reportedly been leaked and it's apparently gone all the way down to 66. While that might seem low to you, Shaquille O'Neal thinks it should be even lower, as he commented on a post that shared the leaked rating.

    "Should b lower."

That was a ruthless shot taken by O'Neal, but it wasn't all that surprising that he did it, considering their history. Both of them are LSU alumni who were selected with the first pick of the draft but there is no love lost between them.

Things started to go south in 2022 when O'Neal called Simmons soft , as he was sitting out after demanding a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers. That unsurprisingly didn't sit too well with the then-76ers star.

O'Neal revealed Simmons angrily DM'd him after he called him soft , but didn't elaborate on what they chatted about. What I can say for sure, is that the two men didn't iron out their issues then.

A fair few shots have been fired since, most of them by O'Neal, but it seemed as if the big man was extending an olive branch before the start of last season. O'Neal surprisingly picked Simmons to win Most Improved Player in 2024 , but it ended up being a terrible prediction.

Simmons only played 15 games in the 2023-24 campaign for the Brooklyn Nets as he once again dealt with injuries. O'Neal didn't have much sympathy for the Australian, though. On his podcast, co-host Adam Lefkoe asked him which player he'd pay to watch live and O'Neal ruthlessly went with Simmons .

“Ben Simmons, because I would want to learn how you can make $80M and play 55 games,” said O’Neal. “Teach me. Teach me how you could play 55 games in three seasons and get $30 million, $40 million, and another $40 million.”

Simmons has now played just 57 games over the last three seasons but has been paid over $100 million in that time. While the three-time All-Star's pockets aren't currently hurting due to the missed games, it is why his 2K rating has been going down.

In the 2023-24 season, Simmons averaged 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. While I am not sure the 27-year-old goes down to 66 in NBA 2K25, I wouldn't be surprised to see him just a few rating points above it.

The Nets Plan To Keep Ben Simmons On Their Roster Next Season

With Simmons having missed so much time, some wondered if the Nets would cut ties with him this offseason. He'll be earning a whopping $40.3 million in 2024-25 and there were murmurs about the team looking at a buyout or trade.

It appears that won't be the case, though, as the Nets are not planning on getting rid of Simmons next season. With the team entering a rebuild now following the Mikal Bridges trade, it doesn't really hurt them in any way to keep Simmons around either.

Unless a team makes a compelling offer, I think the Nets will keep him on their roster and then let him walk when his contract expires in 2025. Maybe if Simmons stays healthy and shows he can perform on the court, they might re-sign him, but I doubt it.
