McDonald's has delighted its fans by announcing that the beloved McRib will return 'later this year.' This week, the President of McDonald's US Joe Erlinger confirmed d that the McRib would be returning to menus for a limited period.
The McRib is a sandwich featuring seasoned boneless pork drenched in a tangy barbecue sauce, garnished with slivered onions and pickles, all served on a toasted homestyle bun. The McRib has been a sporadic feature on McDonald's menu s for some time, and according to Erlinger, it's due to make a return towards the end of the year.
"It's coming later this year. The McRib will be back," Erlinger declared during a chat with Today's Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie while promoting the fast food chain's new $5 value meal . However, it was Today's weatherman Al Roker who probed Erlinger about the McRib, which the 69-year-old TV personality is known to have a particular liking for.
Roker, jokingly stating he was "asking for a friend," appeared thrilled about the McRib news, exclaiming, "The McRib's coming back!"
The McRib has already been available in Germany for some time, and it made a comeback in Canada in January. "Bringing the McRib back for a limited time will spur some interest and food traffic for McDonald's at a time when performance is flagging," retail expert for Global Data, Neil Saunders, informed the Daily Mail this week.

Nonetheless, he cautioned: "The uplift is usually only temporary, so the chain still has work to do on areas like pricing if it wants to secure a better performance."
Certainly, many enthusiasts, including Roker, are expected to express delight over this announcement, and they will undoubtedly be making a trip to their local McDonald's when the well-awaited sandwich finally returns later this year.
