As the Love Island USA villa is in tears over the recently eliminated islanders , one former star confessed he didn't understand why everyone grew so emotional over the eliminations as he tried his hardest to stay to the end.

Carsten "Bergie" Bergersen, who competed on season four of the hit reality dating show, spoke to a Mirror US reporter in an Instagram Live about this seasons' emotional exits and his own experience during the elimination rounds. This season, islanders Hakeem White and Andrea Carmona just packed their bags and exited the villa after a unanimous vote - a goodbye that was met with many tears and loving embraces from the friends they've made along the way.

And while Bergie could relate to the pain of having to say goodbye to a close pal, he admitted every time someone left the villa he thought of it as one step closer to the finish line. He told The Mirror: "I can’t believe it. Like Taylor [his match on the show, still together] had the opposite opinion of me but when I was in there, I had the goal of getting to the end no matter what. That was my goal going in."

He continued: "So anytime someone got eliminated, I was like, ‘Okay I’m one step closer to my goal of making it to the end, to the final four.' So now I’m a little like, 'Why is everyone crying? I understand you’re losing a friend but its not like they’re getting executed when they leave the villa…you can still FaceTime them when you leave the villa as well…I understand its early and its tough to lose someone this early like if I lost some of my closer friends this early that would have sucked.”

Bergie went on to add that he just felt that he had a "different mindset" going into the reality show and couldn't understand why other islanders would want more people to stay. During his season, Bergie was a fan favorite of the series and stayed until the final three up until day 32. During the interview, he joked: "I don’t know why but they don’t want anyone to go they want 34 people in that villa."

As the current islanders are heading into the later days of the competition and more and more contestants are getting eliminated, some islanders have been forced to make some difficult calls. During the latest episode, Rob's love for Andrea was put to the test as she was voted to leave the villa. And while many thought that they found true love and would leave together, fans were stunned as Rob hugged goodbye to Andrea and stayed to revisit his connection with Leah.
