Liverpool dealt second transfer blow in 24 hours as Pep Guardiola given 'green light'

Liverpool may have been handed another transfer blow, with potential target Joshua Kimmich wanting a move to Manchester City .

The Reds are yet to make a signing this summer, with Euro 2024 and Copa America not helping in that regard. Some of the names linked with a move to Anfield look to have already fallen by the wayside though.

Liverpool is pursuing Lille defender Leny Yoro , although the 18-year-old looks to be waiting for Real Madrid, while the chances of Anthony Gordon joining the Reds are now looking slim after talks broke down on Saturday after Newcastle looks to have found other deals to beat the PSR deadline . Another player now looks to have ruled out Liverpool as an option.

Joshua Kimmich has been linked with a move to Merseyside, with the Reds named among five options last week by Sky Germany . The midfielder looks likely to be on the move, with Bayern Munich having no plans to extend his contract beyond 2025.

As well as Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona were named as possible destinations for the 29-year-old. That list looks to become a lot shorter now though.

According to The Mirror , Kimmich is determined to reunite with Pep Guardiola , having played under the City boss at Bayern. The Premier League champions are said to be firmly in pole position for his signature, with Kimmich set to snub any offer from either club.

Addressing his future before Euro 2024, Kimmich said: “Well, the situation is absolutely clear: I have a contract with FC Bayern until 2025, so it's not mainly up to me to be active right now. My focus is solely on the European Championship, and after that there will be a conversation."

Liverpool.com says: Well, that’s probably another name we can rule out. At least it’s not Real Madrid beating Liverpool to a signing for once.

Kimmich would have been a good signing for the Reds, with a defensive midfielder looking like one of the priorities this summer. At 29 though, he doesn’t quite fit the profile the club usually goes for, and Liverpool might well have found itself looking for another option in the near future, so it might be for the best that Kimmich is eyeing up City.
