Beyonce sings 'Deja Vu' at the BET Awards in 2006

Social media wasn’t as popular as it is now when Queen Bey hit the Bet Awards show in 2006, but had it been, she would’ve been the main one trending that night. The sexy metallic silver mini skirt and halter bra top the Cowboy Carter singer donned gave her all the room she needed to put on a show.

As she sang her hit 2006 song Deja Vu live, the Dreamgirls star energetically gyrated and maneuvered the stage in skinny high-heels. Beyonce didn’t miss a note the whole performance, even when she laid out on the floor for part of it. Yes, Beyonce sang on the floor for a few moments.

Sweetening the performance even more was Jay-Z, who joined his then-girlfriend Beyonce on stage to rap his verse that was featured on Deja Vu. Beyonce and Jay-Z ended up getting a standing ovation from audience members as expected.

Destiny’s Child gives lap dances at the 2005 Bet Awards

The year before, Beyonce had another history-making performance at the BET Awards. However, this time she wasn’t solo. At the 2005 BET Awards Beyonce performed as a member of the all-girl group Destiny’s child for their song Cater 2 U. The Obsessed actress was the lead singer of Destiny’s child from 1997 until they officially disbanded in 2006.

What made Destiny’s Child 2005 performance so notable was the fact they each brought a famous man from the audience on stage to give them a lap dance. Michelle Williams sensually danced for Los Angeles Laker legend Magic Johnson, Kelly Rowland seductively swayed for rapper Nelly, and Beyonce daringly danced for movie star Terrence Howard.

That BET performance is still mentioned when the topic of best BET Awards show performances is being discussed.

Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus make country music theirs at the 2019 BET Awards

Country music legend Billy Ray Cyrus performing with Lil Nas X for the Old Town Road remix at the BET Awards in 2019 shut down anyone claiming the singing rapper wasn’t "country enough." Between their swaggy Western attire and the Achy Breaky Heart singer’s guitar, their whole performance epitomized country culture. Which was a site to see on the BET stage.

Charlie Wilson’s Lifetime Achievement Award performance at the 2013 BET Awards

Charlie is a staple figure in R&B music who achieved fame in the 1970s with the well-known funk group The Gap Band, thus him being given the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. He has collaborated with many modern artists including Snoop Dogg, and Kanye West.

Part of the reason Charlie’s Lifetime Achievement Award performance at the 2013 BET Awards was so iconic was because he had Snoop and Justin Timberlake perform with him. Together they performed Snoop's 2004 song Signs, which featured Justin and Charlie. Charlie and Justin took turns singing parts of the song's chorus.

    The 2024 BET Awards comes on Sunday, June 30, at 8 p.m. ET/ 6 p.m. PT.
