There is a heavyweight clash at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf on Monday, when France take on Belgium in an unprecedented encounter.

Both heavyweights were in line to feature in England's so-called favourable side of the knockout draw ahead of the last round of group-stage matches.

Les Bleus were expected to beat Poland to top their group, but could only muster a 1-1 draw, losing Group D toppers spot to dark-horses Austria.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils have been heavily criticized by their fans for a couple of limp attacking displays in what looked like an easily winnable Group E, as a defeat to Slovakia and draw against Ukraine landed them a much sterner knockout tie as runners-up.

France vs. Belgium lineups & team news

Didier Deschamps has no major roster issues to deal with ahead of the round-of-16 match. The France boss should have his entire squad at his disposal on Monday. His star forward completed the full 90 minutes against Poland with no reactions after returning from a broken nose.

With his protective mask on, Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe finally opened his account at the Euros at the third attempt, dispatching a penalty early in the second half before the Poland were awarded a spot-kick of their own.

Mbappe will undoubtedly be good to spearhead the France attack here alongside Antoine Griezmann and a hit-and-miss Ousmane Dembele .

France starting lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Maignan (GK) —  Kounde, Saliba, Upamecano, Hernandez —  Kante, Tchouameni — Dembele, Griezmann, Rabiot — Mbappe.

    Injuries: None

    Suspensions: None

Belgium also have no fresh injury issues to contend with, meaning Axel Witsel (adductor) and Thomas Meunier (thigh) remain the only two injury absentees for Domenico Tedesco's side.

Tedesco may decide to wield the axe after another poor outing in the 0-0 draw with Ukraine.

Sevilla winger Dodi Lukebakio is back from suspension, meaning Arsenal's Leandro Trossard could face a battle to retain his spot up front. The star quantities for the Red Devils, though, will be their dynamic front trio of speedster Jeremy Doku , creator-in-chief Kevin De Bruyne and all-time leading goal-scorer Romelu Lukaku .

Belgium starting lineup (3-5-2, right to left): Casteels (GK) — Castagne, Faes, Vertonghen, Theate — Tielemans, Onana — Doku, De Bruyne, Carrasco — Lukaku.

Injuries: Axel Witsel (adductor), Thomas Meunier (thigh)

    Suspensions: None
