USA vs. Uruguay confirmed lineups, team news, starting 11 for Copa America match with USMNT hopes on the line

The U.S. men know that their Copa America lives are square on the line when they take on Uruguay in the final Group C match on Monday.

A damaging defeat to Panama last time out left the USMNT with no choice but to take down a Copa America title contender to remain in the competition, or face an embarrassing and disappointing group-stage elimination on home soil.

While it's still possible for the U.S. to qualify for the quarterfinals without victory against Uruguay, those scenarios require Panama to drop points against Bolivia, which is considered a highly unlikely outcome. Bolivia have looked woeful to this point in multi-goal defeats against the U.S. and Uruguay, and therefore the USA must take matters into their own hands.

There are plenty of questions for head coach Gregg Berhalter to answer ahead of this match, and he must get each one spot on if the United States are to save their tournament.

Tim Weah has been suspended for two matches by CONMEBOL for his red card vs. Panama, meaning he misses this game plus any potential quarterfinal the U.S. could qualify for. The elected option to replace him is moving Gio Reyna out wide right, while Yunus Musah enters in midfield. Other potential starting options in Haji Wright , Brenden Aaronson , and Josh Sargent are left on the bench.

The biggest availability question for the United States was the status of goalkeeper Matt Turner , who was taken out by Cesar Blackman in the last match, and replaced by Ethan Horvath at halftime due to a leg injury. While he was "limited" in training over the last few days, he is somewhat surprisingly fit to start.

Chris Richards has been plagued by giveaways at this tournament but retains his place at the back, with Miles Robinson and Cameron Carter-Vickers left on the bench.

USA starting XI (4-3-3): Turner (GK) — Scally, Richards, Ream, A. Robinson — Musah, Adams, McKennie — Reyna, Balogun, Pulisic.

    Injured: Matt Turner (leg, doubt)
    Suspended: Tim Weah (red card)
On yellow card: Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson, Weston McKennie.

Uruguay are not mathematically through to the quarterfinals just yet, but they are essentially into the knockout stage, as elimination would only happen should they lose this game and see their massive goal differential advantage somehow wiped off the board.

Given that, it was possible that Marcelo Bielsa would rotate his side heavily, especially considering the high-intensity style he plays. However, the head man makes zero changes from the XI that began the last match, as the likes of Darwin Nunez , Federico Valverde, Manuel Ugarte , and Ronaldo Araujo are all starting. That means substitutes like Luis Suarez , Rodrigo Betancur and Jose Gimenez will have to wait for their chance.

Not a single Uruguay player has picked up a yellow card through two Copa America matches.

Uruguay starting XI (4-2-3-1): Rochet (GK) — Nandez, Araujo, Olivera, Vina — Valverde, Ugarte, de la Cruz — Pellistri, D. Nunez, M. Araujo.

    Injured: None.
    Suspended: None.
    On yellow card: None.
