Poached eggs are a beloved weekend treat, whether it's for breakfast, brunch or even certain dinner dishes. But if you're after the "perfect" poached egg in no time at all, one TikTok foodie suggests ditching the pans for an alternative method.

Emily Scott, who posts her breakfast recipes and ideas on her TikTok account @whatiateforbreakfast, claims her method is a simple way to guarantee you get the best poached egg. However, she emphasizes that there's one crucial step you mustn't skip.

The recipe creator asserts that you don't need to use the stove or even a pan to make her poached eggs. Instead, she whips hers up in the microwave, dubbing them the "perfect quick breakfast".

She starts by greasing a small microwave-safe dish and then cracking a large egg into it. Emily mentions that you can use several small ramekins if you want to cook more than one egg simultaneously, reports the Express .

Next, boil the kettle and pour in enough freshly boiled water until the egg is fully submerged. This is where her top tip comes into play.

In her TikTok video, Emily explained: "Carefully prick the egg and white with a cocktail stick, skewer or sharp knife. This helps to prevent the chance of the egg exploding so don't skip this step."

She advises cooking your egg for 40 to 45 seconds, keeping a close watch on the egg at all times. However, Emily does point out that the length of cooking time may vary depending on your microwave.

She advised: "Depending on the power of your microwave and how many eggs you are cooking, you may need to cook for a few seconds less or longer. If they are undercooked, try adding an extra five or 10 seconds at a time until the whites are cooked but the yolk is still runny."

Once you're happy with how your eggs look, it's time to get them out of the microwave. Pop them onto some kitchen towel to soak up any leftover water.
