Joshua Kimmich's personality may give Arne Slot a headache if he seals Liverpool transfer

Liverpool boss Arne Slot might have to deal with frequent headaches if the Reds bring Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich to Anfield .

The German international, who has one year left on his deal with the Bundesliga side, looks to be available this summer, with Liverpool heavily linked with a move for the Bayern star. A versatile operator, Kimmich can play right-back or in midfield, and would likely provide Liverpool’s squad with some real quality depth behind Trent Alexander-Arnold .

However, the Reds might be put off by some of Kimmich’s ‘combative’ behavior behind the scenes, which could prevent him from making a move to Merseyside this summer. Back in 2022, Germany took part in Amazon’s ‘All or Nothing’ series, with viewers given a behind-the-scenes look at how then-coach Hansi Flick and the rest of the German squad operated at the Qatar World Cup.

The disastrous campaign saw Germany fail to make it out of the group stages, with Kimmich and co losing their first game of the tournament 2-1 to Japan. A 1-1 draw against Spain followed, which left them needing to beat Costa Rica. However, their 4-2 win was not enough.

Spain had beaten Costa Rica 7-0 in their opener, giving them a vastly superior goal difference to Germany. Had they beaten Spain however, they would have gone through top of their group. During the tournament, Amazon cameras filmed a post-game debrief, where Flick asked his squad about doubts they may have after their defeat to Germany.

And Kimmich was all too keen to vent his frustrations during the meeting. A heated back-and-forth ensued, with the 29-year-old unyielding in getting his point across. Despite his position in the team, Kimmich has no issue in challenging his boss and raising issues about formation and tactics.

Amazon cameras also picked up a training ground argument between Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger and Kimmich as well as one with Borussia Dortmund’s Niklas Sule.

Just last season, it was also reported that Kimmich had to be held back by his teammates during a tunnel spat with Thomas Tuchel’s assistant Zslot Low. While a fiery temperament can be a good thing in some environments, Slot may wish to avoid upsetting the apple cart at Anfield, which could see Liverpool steer clear of Kimmich.
