Potatoes are one of the most versatile foods around. They're delicious in any form. This is exactly why one ornery cat named Noodle will do anything for a taste.

In a June 27, 2024 TikTok video shared by Campy Home ( @campyhome ), Noodle's caught red-handed with his newly found treasure—a foil-wrapped potato. See the hilarious interaction below!

The clip captioned, "potato bandit strikes again," shows the orange kitty carrying the large potato in his mouth. "Noodle, hey, come here," his dad says. It's this exact moment the smart boy attempts to run off with his food prize, but Dad grabs him just in time.

"Drop the potato," he orders. "Drop it. Give." Noodle isn't having it, only chomping down on the vegetable harder. Dad has to set Noodle on the couch so he can physically grab a hold of the potato from the feline's mouth. When he finally makes headway, pieces of the potato break off, foil and all, as Noodle desperately tries to salvage any last bites. It's absolute comedy gold, and many of his followers agree.

"Give noodle his potato. He stole it fair and square," one person wrote. "Poor baby. Never done nothing wrong ever," another joked. "He HAULED that potato back there!" another added. Many wondered if this silly little guy was okay after unapologetically stealing a potato , to which his human replied, "He lives to bandit another day."

Are Potatoes Safe For Cats To Eat?

Lort Smith Animal Hospital says potatoes can be toxic —if they're not cooked. "Poisoning occurs only if the animal ingests raw or green potatoes," the site says. "Cooked potatoes are not harmful. Raw potatoes contain a combination of toxic alkaloids that can cause gastrointestinal irritation and neurological signs." The reasons why raw potatoes are poisonous aren't completely known.

Signs your cat may have been poisoned by a raw potato include:

    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Lethargy
    • Abdominal pain
    • Fever (hyperthermia)
    • Coughing
    • Gagging
    • Gum irritation
    • Sneezing
    • Excessive urination (polyuria)
    • Hypersalivation/drooling
    • Uncoordinated gait (ataxia)
    • Abnormal eye movements (nystagmus)
    • Different sized pupils in both eyes (anisocoria)
    • Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
    • Central nervous system depression (depression, dullness, stupor)
    • Muscle tremors
    • Convulsions
    • Seizures
    • Abnormal posture/stiffness and rigidity/extension of limbs
    • Coma
    • Death

If you suspect your cat ingested a raw or green potato, you should take them to the vet for a full workup, which could include blood tests, IV fluids, anti-emetics, and decontamination. Likewise, the vet may prescribe "muscle relaxants, anti-arhythmics, anticonvulsants, pain relief, and other drugs," as necessary. Recovery can take days or even weeks so it's important to act fast and all will be okay.
