Daniel Sturridge , the former Liverpool and England striker, exploded in celebration when the Three Lions got away with one at the European Championship earlier today.

Jude Bellingham , a one-time Liverpool transfer target, scored an overhead kick with England's first shot on target in the game to rescue a draw against Slovakia. Harry Kane then headed home a winning goal to seal an undeserved place in the quarter-finals.

Watching in the FOX Sports studio alongside Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, Sturridge jumped up and went crazy when Bellingham netted. The Real Madrid man hadn't made his mark on the game until that point but popped up with a vital moment.

Sturridge, on punditry duty in the United States, would have been as surprised as anyone when England played its get out of jail free card. And he celebrated the goal wildly.

"I'm delighted," Sturridge said at the final whistle. "They've got themselves into this position, an amazing opportunity to get themselves into the quarterfinal,' Sturridge said at a moment of greater composure during extra time.

"When the game was won, he added: 'That goal is right up there, very high up there. 30 seconds to go I'm thinking they are going home. The belief, the patience in the squad is amazing."

NFL legend Tom Brady, a part-owner of Birmingham City, the club where Bellingham began his career, was also cheering for England. "Jude," Brady posted on X/Twitter, alongside a series of 'mind-blown' emojis.

When Kane added another, Brady tweeted again and said: "Harry!!! What a game!!!". As a result of their comeback win, England will face Switzerland on Saturday in the quarter-finals, where it will have to play a lot better than it did here.

Liverpool.com says: England was very lucky and even Gareth Southgate will need to recognize that. The competition is still there for the taking with England being on the easier side of the draw, but the Three Lions will need to improve drastically before then.
