Missing Kansas mom, 2 daughters possibly ‘coerced’ to Mexico: cops

A missing Kansas mother and her two young daughters may have been “coerced” into a trip to Mexico, authorities said.

Martha Unger , 23, was last seen Friday leaving her home in rural Haskell County, Kan., with her two girls — Madilynn Grace Unger, 2, and Haylie Faith Unger, 1, police said.

The mom may have been “coerced to travel to Mexico to a religious rehabilitation facility ,” the Kansas Bureau of Investigation wrote late Friday in a Facebook post.

The family of three may be traveling with Corney and Elizabeth Klaasen , police said. The Klaasens, both in their 50s, “may be driving a white-and-black Chevy Blazer bearing a Mexico tag,” according to the KBI.

However, Unger was last seen driving her own vehicle, a 2015 white Ford Explorer with Kansas license plate 301RJY, cops said.

“Martha is a white female, approximately 5 foot 6 inches tall, weighing around 120 pounds. She has brown hair, and green eyes. Both girls have blond hair and blue eyes,” the KBI wrote. “Investigators wish to check the welfare of Martha and her children.”

Police did not say exactly where in Mexico the Ungers were reportedly headed. The closest major Mexican city, Juarez, is about 500 miles southwest of the Ungers’ home in western Kansas .

About 3,600 people live in Haskell County , according to the 2020 census. The local sheriff’s department is leading the investigation into the Ungers’ disappearance.
