Grammy winning singer-songwriter SZA not only tops the charts with her solo projects, but she’s also one of the most in demand musical collaborators working in the industry today—and she has the climbing net worth to match her bonafides.

When asked about her charmed life, SZA told Apple Music Radio , “I have already gone platinum—I didn’t think I would ever go platinum— I sold a bunch of records. I got to meet Stevie Wonder , I got to meet Beyoncé and work with her, I got to meet Frank Ocean . My mom came and my dad came to all these cool countries to see me perform. I’ve had sold out shows, I got to headline a festival. Like, what else do I want?”

She has a point! Keep reading to find how SZA got her start and what she earns for her talent.

How did SZA get her start?

SZA, born Solána Imani Rowe, started out by singing hooks for her rapper brother, Daniel Rowe , who raps under the name Manhattan . But she gained solo traction by writing and producing her own songs and releasing them on SoundCloud. Her self-released mixtape in 2012, See.SZA.Run , followed up by an EP S in 2013 directly led to her eventually signing with Top Dawg Entertainment, with the budding songstress making history as the first woman and singer to be signed by TDE.

    What song made SZA famous?

One of SZA’s first songs that helped put her name out there was a song she released on SoundCloud 11 years ago, “Aftermath.” However, her first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 was “Love Galore’ with Travis Scott , off of her 2017 debut studio album Ctrl . The following year, her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar , “All the Stars” off of the Black Panther soundtrack, earned her several Grammy Award nominations as well as an Academy Award nomination, allowing her to reach a whole new audience.

What is SZA’s net worth in 2024?

According to Celebrity Net Worth , SZA has a net worth of approximately $6 million. She’s earned her budding fortune through her success as a singer, songwriter, music collaborator and even as a music video director.

In addition to writing much of her own music, SZA has written for Travis Scott, Rihanna , Nicki Minaj and Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé.

    How much has SZA made?

SZA has made around $6 million in her over decade-plus career. It’s been reported that part of her financial success is due to her better-than-usual record deal with Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA Records, which affords her a 70/30 split in her favor. This is in large part due to her prowess in growing buzz on her own.

In addition, many artists earn a good amount of their profits from touring. SZA has headlined two tours of her own, Ctrl the Tour from 2017 until 2018, and SOS Tour , which finished in October 2023. She was the co-headliner for The Championship Tour in 2018 in addition to featuring on tours for other artists like Jhené Aiko , Jesse J and Bryson Tiller .

    What is SZA’s biggest hit?

There are a few different metrics to determine what SZA’s biggest hit is. SZA’s first song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 was 2023’s “Kill Bill.” However, her song that has received the most plays across platforms over the years is arguably one of her first major hits, “Love Galore,” featuring Travis Scott.

Speaking about “Love Galore,” SZA has commented , “I love this beat. I love tropical sounding beats. I always think of Muppets Vacation. ‘Kokomo.’ ‘That’s where we wanna go.’ I always get excited when I hear tropical beats.”

    Has SZA won any Grammys?

SZA has been nominated for a slew of awards. When it comes to the Grammys, out of her 24 nominations , the “I Hate U” singer boasts four wins.

These wins are for: Best R&B Song for “Snooze,” Best Progressive R&B Album for SOS , Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (along with Phoebe Bridgers ) for “Ghost In The Machine” and another Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (along with Doja Cat ) for “Kiss Me More.”

Did SZA write a song for Rihanna?

SZA had originally written the song “Consideration” for her own debut studio album Ctrl under the title “LouAnne Johnson.” However, when she was invited to a writing camp with Rihanna and failed to produce any new music for the artist, SZA performed the song in an attempt to impress Pharrell Williams . After hearing the song, Rihanna requested to have it for her album Anti . After Rihanna secured the rights to record the song, she and Tyran Donaldson were added as co-writers and SZA was credited as a featured singer in addition to co-writer.

SZA had conflicted feelings about this change initially. “I cared so much. I was so, just, frustrated. And I felt like, ‘I’ll never have anything this cool again.’ I’ll never make anything this cool again, and that was so crazy and so wrong," she told EW .

She continued, “[The song] was like the centerpiece to my album at the time. And for her, it was just, like, part of her album. And I was like, ‘Please, no.' I had just shot a video for it and I was about to drop it in a couple days," but the singer said the transfer "was already done" without her initial input. She added, “Whatever the conversation, label-wise, was already done. It was just a matter of accepting [it]."

Nowadays, the Grammy Winner has had a change of heart. "I’m so glad that that happened and that it didn’t cost me anything. If anything, I gained a bunch from it. And I thank God that I made cool music outside of that. I don’t know why I just really thought my creativity would just stop, and this was the pinnacle of what I could make.”

What song did SZA write for Beyoncé?

SZA co-wrote Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé’s “Feelin’ Myself” from Nicki Minaj’s third studio album 2014’s The Pinkprint. She is credited as a writer alongside Minaj, Beyoncé and Hit-Boy.

At the time, SZA didn’t think the parts she’d written would get used . “I’m like, ‘This ain’t gon’ be nothing because this is just, I’m talking, what am I talking about? I’m talking about drugs and, just, pimp [stuff].’ I’m just being silly. Like, I’m being silly.”

She also detailed one of her favorite parts of the behind-the-scenes process. “It was dope meeting Beyoncé," she said. "She’s tight. She’s perfect, actually.”
