Third lane open on I-85 in Cherokee Co.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — State officials have opened a third lane of I-85 northbound from mile marker 80 to mile marker 90.

According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation, the third lane is a part of the I-85 Widening and Improvement Project.

“I want to thank the traveling public and especially the residents of Cherokee and Spartanburg Counties for their patience we work to complete this project,” said Justin Powell with SCDOT. “I look forward to seeing more progress on this project and others that help move our people and our state forward.”

SCDOT asked drivers to continue with caution on the roadway, as crews are working on putting final pavement markings on the road.
