WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — ICT Dachshunds hosted Weenies and Martinis on Sunday afternoon at Public at the Brickyard to raise money for their foundation, which helps Kansas residents and their dogs that are suffering from intervertebral disc disease and other back related issues.

“That affects dachshunds primarily, and it is a disease that affects their spines,” said ICT Dachshund Foundation Board Member Morgan Hawkins. “It causes them to be paralyzed and have issues walking, and it can be very costly for the families. They either have to have acupuncture or surgery. That can cost thousands of dollars.”

IVDD affects dachshunds of all ages.

“I met someone at our last sausage walk who had a dachshund that was only a year old, and they were paralyzed from playing at a dog park,” said Hawkins. “It jumped off of one of the ramps wrong, and they were paralyzed, so it can affect dachshunds of all ages it’s not just the older.”

The ICT Dachschunds Foundation’s mission is to help families help their dachshunds to walk again.

“We do wheelchairs, strollers for them, help financially as well,” said Hawkins.
