Orphan Black: Echoes’ Creator Anna Fishko Weighs In on [Spoiler]’s Big Return

Sorry, Clone Club. Tatiana Maslany didn’t reprise any of her bajillion LEDA clones just yet, but Sunday’s episode of Orphan Black: Echoes served up the next best thing.
Jordan Gavaris returned to the franchise in Episode 2, reprising his role of Felix Dawkins, Kira’s uncle. Felix (slightly older these days thanks to the series’ time jump) is in town to set up for an art installation he’s running, but also to check up on his niece — who he still affectionately calls “Monkey” — because her mother Sarah would “pickaxe me in my sleep if I didn’t come by.”
“It was really fun,” creator Anna Fishko tells TVLine about Gavaris’ return. “We spent time thinking about who was important to the original Clone Club, who made sense from a story point of view to still be in Kira’s life essentially. [Felix] was an obvious choice.”
It’s thanks to Felix that we get our first update as to how Sarah is faring offscreen. We learn she’s working at a shelter helping women. “She’s practically like Mother Teresa, if Mother Teresa had discovered she was part of a human cloning experiment gone wrong,” he says. Kira tells him that things have never been comfortable between her and Sarah due to everything that happened. “And yet, you still have this,” he says, pulling a book off her shelf: The Island of Dr. Moreau . Kira says she hasn’t touched it in years (but hellooooo, Easter egg!).
“[Jordan] was so game for everything and it’s very complicated to do all of that prosthetic work,” Fishko adds. “He had to sit in the chair for a very long time. But I think it was really exciting for him to get to come back and think about what his character would be like as an older man and what success he would have had and what loss he would have had. He was such a dream. He couldn’t have been nicer to work with.”
After helping procure some cocaine for one of Kira’s experiments, both Felix and Lucas suspect that something is going on with her. Later, Kira confides in Felix that she worries that her past traumatic experiences didn’t make her a better woman or scientist. “What if it just made me selfish?” she asks. Felix gives her a brief pep talk, reminding her of all of the lives her organ printing has saved. He also tells her that “S would be so proud” of all that she’s accomplished. Kira tells Felix she’ll see him at his installation opening, so perhaps another appearance is in store?
