If Liverpool could snap up Anthony Gordon this summer, that would be a dream transfer in the eyes of many. While Newcastle United appears to have solved its PSR issues in other ways, the Reds are supposedly still eyeing up a deal .

Elsewhere, a defensive addition remains of the utmost importance. Arne Slot's side cannot afford to be left short of options at the back and while Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are both excellent, the former only has a year left on his contract at the moment and the latter is prone to picking up injuries.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. We start with more claims on Gordon, while there is also a Bundesliga center-half being linked.

    Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)

Liverpool would be willing to commit $63m (£50m/€59m) and Caoimhin Kelleher in order to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, according to TeamTALK . The website claims that the Reds are hoping to 'test the waters' with such an offer having rejected the opportunity to lose Jarell Quansah as part of a deal. That was never going to be acceptable at Anfield.

Gordon got 21 goal contributions in the Premier League last season and established himself as one the best players in the division. While he would be of interest to Liverpool, it would have to be for a sensible price.

Liverpool.com says: Gordon would be a massive signing for Liverpool if it was possible to pull off. Given the PSR deadline has now passed, though, it is perhaps unlikely that something will be revived. Newcastle was desperate to keep its number 10.

    Odilon Kossounou (Bayer Leverkusen)

Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou has moved to the 'top' of Liverpool’s list of center-back targets for this summer. That is according to Caught Offside , though Manchester United is also said to be keen on the 23-year-old, who has rejected a new deal with Xabi Alonso's side and could therefore be on the move in this transfer window for a fee of around $32m (£26m/€30m).

Leny Yoro is expected to move to Real Madrid while Jarrad Branthwaite has proven to be too expensive for Manchester United, with both clubs perhaps in need of alternatives for their top targets. The ECHO did report last week, though, that if Liverpool couldn't get Yoro, it might not sign a defender at all. That would be a big risk , but the Reds have gone down the 'perfect or nothing' route before.

Liverpool.com says: If Leny Yoro proves to be unattainable for Liverpool, an alternative is a must. Whether Kossounou is of the right caliber can be questioned, but some more depth in that position is definitely required.
