    The Georgia Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Section, conducts regular restaurant inspections to help keep residents and visitors safe.

    The following is a list of restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that have been inspected between June 21 and 26, accompanied by their scores and, in some cases, the health infractions that lowered those scores.

    Disclaimer: On any given day, an establishment may have fewer or more violations than noted in their most recent inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment. A few more recent, follow-up inspections may not be included here.

    Here are restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that passed recent food-service inspections between June 21 and 26 with scores of 99, posting just one health violation. Inspectors’ comments are included:

    • Chick-fil-A at Childrens Hospital of Georgia in Augusta at 1446 Harper St.
    • Inspector's comments: "Observed wet nesting of clean dishes; allow dishes to air dry before stacking."
    • McDonald's in Martinez at 381 Furys Ferry Rd.
    • Inspector's comments: "Observed reach-in cooler behind hot holding station/prep line with an odor inside top drawer, blood residue/food residue; fry freezer also had fry debris along bottom shelf. Cleaning needed, clean more frequently."

    Here are restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that posted the lowest recent food-service inspections between June 21 and 26, followed by their scores and, where available, inspectors' comments. Scores of 70 and below are considered failing:

    • Ashley's Yummy Tummy at 7016 Evans Town Center Blvd. in Evans scored 78. Here were the inspector's comments:
    • "No person left in charge once owner left unit. No knowledge pf procedures. Establish PIC when not present."
    • "Hand sink blocked with towel and cup in sink. Don't block sink."
    • "Food stored uncovered next to grill and uncovered dry food items."
    • "Foods in reach in cooler stored above 41 degrees Fahrenheit ranging from 47-58 degrees Fahrenheit. Ensure foods are cold held below 41 degrees Fahrenheit."
    • "Improper hot holding for meats next to grill area. Hot Hold foods in proper equipment."
    • "Pan of noodles had pan sitting on top/in noodles. Don't sit pots or other items on top of ready to eat foods to prevent contamination."
    • "Gloves not changed/used properly. Ensure gloves are changed when entering kitchen."
    • "Observed non-food contact surfaces in need of cleaning. Clean equipment, hoods, vents, and other areas."
    • Izumi Japanese Buffet at 4368 Washington Rd. in Evans scored 73. Here were the inspector's comments:
    • "Observed live roach activity in kitchen and sushi bar. Need pest company to come and treat but you must clean the kitchen to prevent roaches."
    • "All employee drinks must have lid and straw."
    • "Do not put scratchers / anything in hand sink."

    • "Employee entered kitchen without washing hands. Ensure hands are washed upon entering kitchen, switching tasks, coming from outside."
    • "Employee entered kitchen from going outside to cooler and did not wash hands or change gloves nor remove original gloves. Ensure gloves are changed when entering kitchen and after washing hands."
    • "Foods in reach-in cooler stored uncovered along with meats in sink and on stove. Ensure foods are stored covered to prevent contamination."
    • "Several foods in prep area and reach-in coolers/freezer above 41 degrees Fahrenheit ranging from 42-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Ensure foods are held at 41 degrees Fahrenheit and below. Move items to cooler that is working properly or place on ice baths."
    • "Several open cans of vegetables and beans in reach-in cooler. Once can is opened, use a container to store the rest. Do not store in opened cans. This is a repeat violation."
    • "Hot water in hand-sink with improper pressure. Have sink repaired and pressure checked to ensure proper hand washing."
    • China City at 3128 Deans Bridge Rd. in Augusta scored 69. Here were the inspector's comments:
    • "Raw chicken stored in container on floor with flies. All foods must be kept 6" off ground for storage."
    • "Raw chicken stored on floor uncovered. Broccoli in walk in cooler uncovered. All foods must be stored covered for protection."
    • "Cabbage being stored at 54 degrees. Cold holding temperatures should be below 42 degrees."
    • "Scoops stored in containers with food. Store scoops outside containers to avoid accidental contamination."
    • "Wet mop not hung to dry. All mops must be stored to air dry."
    • "Multiple flies throughout the establishment. Hire a professional pest control company to get rid of the flies or use a commercial grade only pest control system."
