Pamela Anderson's heart-warming decision to ditch makeup after tragedy as she turns 57

Pamela Anderson became famous for her striking looks and full-on glamor as a young woman, but in later life has embraced a more natural look .

In the '90s Pamela was always seen wearing full-coverage foundation as well as voluminous lashes, dark eyeliner, and overlined lips. However, as she turns 57 on July 1 the Hollywood star has stepped it back and now is seen opting to go totally make-up free in stark contrast to her past look.

Her decision to ditch the glam actually stemmed from a heart-breaking moment in her life after her makeup artist Alexis Vogel was diagnosed with breast cancer and sadly died. The loss left Pamela opting not to replace her friend and instead deciding to stop wearing makeup altogether.

She previously told Elle of the decision: "She was the best. And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup." The star admitted her new look has been "freeing, and fun, and a little rebellious." She added: "I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain."

She added: "I think we all start looking a little funny when we get older. And I'm kind of laughing at myself when I look at the mirror. I go, 'Wow, this is really...what's happening to me?' It's a journey." She told the publication that she has embraced her aging face. Pamela also said she is "in a good place" when it comes to her looks.

Pamela also discussed her new look with Allure last year when she detailed further how she felt free after removing the "mask" that wearing heavy makeup had provided her with. She also admitted the move had helped her to reflect and think deeper on her life, and her purpose in being alive as it gave her more motivation to connect with people and think of how she can help others.

She said: "I've always felt like there’s a little monster inside of me that I need to get out, I need to share. I've been trying and I've begun to feel closest to it, and it's peeling back everything and trying to remember what my original thoughts are. It's not just about makeup, taking off the mask, but it's about why am I here, what's my purpose, why do I resonate with people, can I help in any way?"
