AEW star Mercedes Mone recently discussed her working relationship with former WWE CEO Vince McMahon . Before joining AEW, Mercedes Mone, known as Sasha Banks in WWE, was one of the top women’s stars. She is also recognized as part of the ‘Four Horsewomen,’ alongside Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and Bayley.

Mone made her main roster debut alongside Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch in 2015, kicking off the women’s revolution in WWE. Bayley joined the main roster a year later, in 2016. Since their arrival, all four women have been considered top stars, each becoming multiple-time women’s champions.

In 2020, as the world shut down due to the pandemic, WWE underwent significant changes. With Becky Lynch on hiatus due to her pregnancy and Charlotte Flair making limited appearances, this shift allowed Bayley and Mercedes Mone to step up their game and take over the women’s division in the absence of these top stars.

During the pandemic, both stars took on the responsibility of carrying WWE’s women’s division. Mercedes Mone recently opened up about how this challenging period, where she elevated her performance and took on more significant roles, played a crucial part in earning Vince McMahon’s trust.

How Mercedes Mone earned Vince McMahon’s WrestleMania main event spot

Mercedes Mone and Bayley stepped up during the pandemic, with Mone earning Vince McMahon’s trust. In an interview with WFAN, Mone revealed how gaining McMahon’s trust helped her secure a spot at WrestleMania 37.

She stated , “I had a great relationship with him [Vince McMahon]. I mean I feel like me and Bayley really took over the pandemic era, and that’s felt like the relationship really, really grew. That he knew he can count on us and trust on us, and so much so that he gave me the opportunity to main event WrestleMania 37, which was one of my biggest, biggest dreams, so big that I didn’t even think that was possible.”

Mone headlined WrestleMania 37 against Bianca Belair on night one. However, in 2022, Mercedes Mone made the significant decision to leave WWE following creative disagreements with Vince McMahon. She has since made a name for herself in NJPW and AEW, and she currently holds the AEW TBS Championship and the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.
