There is one time you should mow your lawn this summer - or risk dry, brown grass

The USA has finally been graced with hot weather, as temperatures soared earlier this week. While the sunny days might inspire you to tackle some garden chores , an expert advises against mowing your lawn during these scorching periods . Carlos Real, a lawn care specialist and the managing director of TotalLawn, suggests that homeowners should only mow their lawns in hot weather if they are dedicated to watering it regularly.

He clarified: "If you are watering regularly, then you should carry on mowing every two to three days, but if you can't commit to solidly watering your lawn, it's best to avoid mowing too ." This is because the heat puts additional stress on the lawn, and mowing will only exacerbate this as the grass tries to recover.

If the grass blades don't receive enough water, they will start to dry out and die, reports the Express . All varieties of grass can struggle in hot weather without sufficient hydration, but lawns are especially prone to drying out.

Mr. Real advised: "It's important to water the lawn heavily over the next few days as the temperatures climb. Ideally, you should be watering it early in the morning before the main heat of the day."

"When watering, think about it more like soaking the soil, rather than watering the grass blades," he added. "It is very hard to over-water your lawn, so don't hold back."

The expert suggests watering your lawn before 10am each day before the highest temperatures hit. If you're not up for daily watering, then only cut the grass after it rains, Carlos advises.

Carlos also recommends skipping the fertilizer when it's scorching outside. He warns that during a heatwave, it's better to hold off on feeding your lawn with any fertilizers.

Carlos explained: "Unless you are committed to watering your lawn every day, we'd recommend avoiding granular feeds for a few days."

He added, "That's because the fertilizer can burn your lawn in the hot weather if it isn't properly watered, so save the feed until after the heatwave."
