TROUT CREEK, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A small private aircraft is reported down in an area near the Delaware County Hamlet of Trout Creek Sunday afternoon. The exact location of the crash had not been found as of 8:00 PM Sunday. There were five people reported to be on board.

As of 8:00 PM Sunday, a search was still being conducted in the area of Herrick Hollow Road and County Highway 27 in Trout Creek. There had not been any reports of finding the fuselage, but debris had been located. Among the debris was at least one of the plane’s wings.

A report in the New York Times states that the plane, a Piper PA-46, had taken off from Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta. There were five people reported to be on board. Multiple calls to emergency dispatchers for Delaware County reported an aircraft was in distress and looked like it was going to crash.

The FAA is already involved in the investigation of the crash. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
