FOND DU LAC COUNTY – Two motorcycle crashes involving one deer left one man seriously injured and two other people with minor injuries Sunday evening.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, Campbellsport Ambulance, Campbellsport Fire Department and Eden Fire Department responded around 7:45 p.m. June 30 to State 45 near Gatzke Lane in the town of Auburn after one motorcycle struck a deer and the other crashed while trying to avoid the first crash.

According to the sheriff's office, initial investigation indicates a 23-year-old Adell man was traveling south on State 45 when a deer jumped into the road from the west ditch just before the Milwaukee River bridge. He struck the deer and slid on the road with his motorcycle into the bridge guardrail before being thrown.

His motorcycle slid back into the lane into the path of the second motorcycle, driven by a 23-year-old Kewaskum man, who collided with it. He and his passenger, a 25-year-old Oconomowoc woman, were thrown from the motorcycle.

Flight for Life flew the Adell man to ThedaCare Trauma Center in Neenah with serious injuries. He was wearing a helmet. The two others, who were not wearing helmets, were treated at the scene and released.

The sheriff's office does not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. State 45 was shut down between County Highway V and County Highway Y for approximately one hour.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene with traffic control, and Fond du Lac Ambulance with a paramedic intercept.
