    While the dream of homeownership may seem out of reach for many Americans lately — due to a combination of factors like soaring mortgage rates , low inventory and high prices — for the ultra-rich, it’s never been a problem.

    And for some billionaires, collecting properties is almost as normal and easy as collecting stamps, with some of them owning dozens of homes across the country and globally.

    Here’s a look at which billionaires own the most homes :

    Larry Ellison

    Ellison, the founder of Oracle whose net worth stands at $133 billion (making him the 10 th richest man on the planet) bought 98% of the Hawaiian island of Lanai for $300 million, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

    His real estate portfolio stands at an eye-popping $1 billion, according to Forbes, and he owns at least 36 properties, according to Love Property.

    Jeff Bezos

    According to Forbes, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos — whose net worth stands at $211 billion (making him the second richest man on the planet according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index) — owns at least nine homes. One of the most recent ones he bought is on the so-called “billionaire bunker,” a luxury island near Miami.

    According to Architectural Digest, this is the third home he bought on Miami’s exclusive Indian Creek Island, alongside the two multimillion-dollar estates he purchased in 2023.

    His real estate portfolio is estimated at $500 million, Forbes noted, with other properties, such as a 30,000-acre ranch in Texas, a $78 million compound in Hawaii and a Manhattan mega-mansion.

    Ken Griffin

    Ken Griffin, the CEO of hedge fund Citadel, has a net worth of $37.9 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Griffin bought three Carlton Gardens in London for $122 million in 2019.

    He owns at least 13 properties, according to Forbes, with seven of them in Florida. In Palm Beach alone, he paid $450 million to buy old oceanfront mansions and make way for a new mega compound.

    Eric Schmidt

    Eric Schmidt is the former CEO of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, and he likes to collect homes. He owns at least 13 residences, according to Forbes.

    Just earlier this month, Business Insider reported that Schmidt had listed his Atherton, California mansion for $24.5 million, located in the country’s most expensive zip code.

    He owns other properties including a $61 million estate in Los Angeles, according to Realtor.com.

    Oprah Winfrey

    Oprah Winfrey — whose reported net worth stands at $2.5 billion — has an impressive real estate portfolio, owning at least 10 homes.

    Her primary residence (“Promised Land”) is in Montecito, California, and is a 40-acre property that includes a main house, a guest home, a tennis court and a pool. According to House Digest, Oprah’s home, which she bought for $52 million, is now worth $100 million.

    Winfrey also owns a duplex in Chicago, a home in Antigua and a ski chalet in Telluride, Colorado.
