    Festivals to check out this July in north central West Virginia

    CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — Looking for some weekend activities in north central West Virginia this July? Here are a few suggestions.

    North Central West Virginia

    Windfest at Canaan Valley – July 5-7

    This weekend festival is about all things kites. Demonstrations, workshops, stunt flying and kite shows will be available throughout the weekend. Jumbo kites including the 115’ cobra snake, gigantic octopus, and many more large kites will fly at the 150’ turbine. In addition to kites, participants are encouraged to hike, enjoy good food, go on scenic chairlift rides and listen to live music. For more information, go to Canaan Valley Resort’s website .

    New Deal Festival in Arthurdale – July 13

    All day on Saturday, July 13, the community will be celebrating Arthurdale’s 90th birthday with markets, vendors, live music, food trucks, a beer tent, hay rides, a watermelon eating contest, exhibits and other entertainment. Child tickets are $5, and adult tickets are $10. More information and a full schedule are available online . Online tickets can be purchased until July 5, but they will also be available at the gate.

    Veggie Man Day in Fairmont – July 13

    Veggie Man Day is one of several new monster and cryptid festivals in West Virginia this year . Veggie Man is a lesser-known Fairmont cryptid who was spotted once in July 1968. The free festival will be held in the Frank & Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center in Fairmont and feature artist vendors, authors, live music, food trucks, free veggie snacks and exclusive Veggie Man Day merch.     4848 Festival in Snowshoe – July 18-20

    This three-day music festival offers a “festivacation experience” but with the added benefits of a mountain resort vacation, according to Snowshoe Mountain’s website. This year’s headliners include Greensky Bluegrass, The Flaming Lips, and St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Festival tickets start at $315 and can be packaged with different lodging options.     Bike Bash WV in Bruceton Mills – July 19-21

    The Bike Bash only lets 800 people in, so it’s highly recommended that you register in advance. The event celebrates mountain biking in West Virginia and offers almost 50 miles of trails, skills clinics, group rides, live entertainment, and kid’s activities. It’s held at Big Bear Lake Trail Center, which is a privately owned trail system that has offerings for all skill levels. There are several registration options, with some including camping for the weekend. Kids under 16 can attend the bash for free. Click here for more information or to register .

    West Virginia Hot Dog Festival in Huntington – July 27

    Only in West Virginia… This whole day at Pullman Square in Huntington is dedicated to hot dogs. With everything from contests and competitions, live music and entertainment, and all-you-can-eat hot dog samples, this festival has something for everyone, especially your furry best friend, who can enter the All-breed dog costume contest & Pooch Parade.
