    Flood warnings active in northeast Kansas due to excessive rain

    TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – The National Weather Service ( NWS ) is issuing flood warnings across northeast Kansas as rain hits the area.

    The NWS issued a warning Monday, July 1 for parts of northeast Kansas due to flood dangers as rivers become overloaded with water from rainfall. Drivers are warned to “not attempt driving around barricades or through flooded areas of the road “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads and other areas. Current flooding alerts include:

    • Pottawatomie County – flood warning
      • Vermillion Creek near Wamego and Mill Creek near Paxico.
      • Issued at 2:41 p.m. on Monday, July 1 through to midnight.
    • Osage County – flood warning
      • Flooding frome xcessive rain could lead to flooding of local rivers, creeks and streams.
      • Issued just before 10 a.m. and continues to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 1.
      • Could impact Carbondale, Overbrook and Scranton.
    • Shawnee County – flood warning
      • Wakarusa River
      • Warning in effect from 9 a.m. Monday to morning of Tuesday, July 2.
      • Flooding will occur at 15 feet on this river. Water is projected to rise to 16.1 feet by Monday afternoon.
      • Could impact Wakarusa.
    • Osage/Lyon County – flood warning
      • Salt Creek near Lyndon and Marais Des Cygnes River above Reading.
      • Warning in effect from 7:49 a.m. on Monday, July 1 to late morning of Tuesday, July 2.
      • Could impact Reading and Lyndon.
