Decades ago, Beverly Grant enjoyed the Woodstock music festival of 1969 despite not having anyone but Ellen Shelburne to make memories with. 55 years later, Grant and Ellen showed up to the garden, referencing what it was like to show up in uncomfortable situations just to hear a favorable artist sing.

The 76-year-olds were offered a night of relaxation in a two-bedroom tent containing a coffee maker, WiFi, a shower, and music. Just like they wanted to in the late ‘60s, Beverly got better viewing access to Woodstock veterans John Fogerty and Roger Daltrey.

Both ladies had their “hippie queen” moment as the non-profit organization, The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, laid out a beautiful patterned carpet for them while promoting their newly acquired glamping facilities. Beverly and Ellen also showed off their throwback photos of being young and carefree at the famous Woodstock concert of ‘69.

Some of the photos featured Ellen as a 21-year-old college student with her then-boyfriend, David, who she eventually married. She gushed about how quickly time rushed by and how she found a longtime friend in Beverly by chance. Also present was David’s best friend and a lady who appeared to be his date for the festival.

    Then and Now

Contrary to the uncomfortable condition of the area back in the day, Beverly and Ellen had loads of fun, not minding the muddy floors and smells. Beverly had been so hyped about the experience, with meeting Ellen as the cherry on top. They both hitched a ride with Beverly’s surfer friend, Ray, who dropped them near the venue and handed them a blanket.

They recalled getting food and water from kind strangers who did not hesitate to care for them. Decades later, Beverly still lives like it’s the ‘60s while thriving in her business as a chef. The duo came back to where their friendship started after collaborating with curators for the Museum at Bethel Woods.
