In the last few months, National Beta members from the Global Leadership Academy for Homeschoolers have been working hard to prepare their entries for the National Beta Convention.

In June, they were able to celebrate that hard work when announced the winners of the following competitions: Create & Animate – 1st Place, Service Learning Showcase – 1st Place, Speech DIV 1 (Lyle J. Gladney) – 1st Place, Technology – 1st Place, Black &White Photography (Christian Scott) - 2nd place and Marketing & Communication - 8th place.

The Global Leadership Academy, chartered in Cobb County, originally competed and received awards during their State Convention held last year in December. Their victories at the state level provided an opportunity tocompete at the national level. The National Convention, held in Savannah, provided all students the opportunity to compete.

Over 6,100 Senior Beta, grades 9-12, students from all over the country were able to represent their schools this summer.

Acworth’s high school graduate, Christian Scott, was the team leader in the club’s first championship of the convention in Technology. Marietta’s Lyle Gladney continued the club’s success as he placed first in the nation in Speech DIV 1.

“We are beyond excited about the success of our students and appreciate National Beta providing the opportunity for our students to show their skills and talent,” said Melanie Scott, sponsor of Global Leadership Academy.

With over 500,000 active members and 8,750 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12.
