Normani Reveals An Injury Led To The Cancellation Of Her BET Awards Performance

Normani was one of the few 2024 BET Awards scheduled performers who unfortunately did not hit the stage during the Culture’s Biggest Night .

On Sunday (June 30), the DOPAMINE singer revealed that she had to cancel her performance because of a “really bad accident,” which led to an unexpected injury.

In the statement shared on her Instagram stories, Normani wrote, “I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone believe me. I wanted to get on here and give you guys an update letting you know that while in rehearsals for BET I had a really bad accident and injured myself.”

The “ Candy Paint ” singer expressed how she’d usually “[power] through under any circumstance,” but this time, she was advised by doctors to sit this one out.

Normani added, “I desperately wanted to give you my best on that stage but performing would delay my healing. I have been going through my process and doing my best to make sense of my feelings regarding this. I am devastated and hate feeling like a disappointment to you but I have to focus on recovering at this time.”

The Fifth Harmony alum noted, “Trust me, I hear you, and I see you. There is nothing more that I wanted to do than perform for you and also, get back to doing what fulfills me most—BEING ON STAGE,” but thanked BET for extending the opportunity.

Normani was reportedly set to partake in the female-led tribute to Usher in honor of his Lifetime Achievement Award .

She would’ve joined Tinashe, Chlöe, Marsha Ambrosius, Keke Palmer, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Victoria Monét, and Teyana Taylor in celebrating Ursher’s legacy.

Fans are still divided on how to feel about the tribute. Most agree that it didn’t properly commemorate the crooner’s career while others are defending the network’s performer choices.
