WisDOT announces updated Fourth of July travel

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Monday that Fourth of July travelers can expect lane closures and traffic on Wisconsin roads over the holiday week.

WisDOT said Wisconsinites are projected to travel in record numbers for the Fourth of July. While most construction will pause to open as many lanes as possible for the traffic, some are significant and may still impact travel routes and times.

In Columbia County, WisDOT said three lanes are open in each direction on the I-39/90/94 bridge over the Wisconsin River, south of Portage, but drivers should expect lane shifts and reduced speeds.

In Jefferson County, WisDOT said two lanes are open on I-90/94 westbound bridges over Newville Road and Rock Lake Road near Lake Mills. Drivers should expect lane shifts and reduced speeds.

In Sauk County, WisDOT said I-90/94 is open to two lanes in each direction between Wisconsin Dells and Portage.

WisDOT said peak travel times are expected between 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, and 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. All Wisconsin rest areas will remain open for those whose travel times may be extended due to traffic.
