'I want to name my baby after a sushi restaurant, I think it sounds cute'

Baby name inspirations can come from anywhere. A person recently took to Reddit to seek advice on the baby name they recently chose. They are considering the name August for a boy.

That name has become more popular over the years . HuffPost reports August was the 167th most popular name for boys in 2019. That’s a jump from 2004, when the name was No. 673 on that list.

Even though it’s currently trendy, that’s not why the couple like it. The idea came from a recent dinner they shared. “We got ‘August 8’ take out randomly, had some very nice conversation over dinner and decided and was inspired to officially start our journey into parenthood,” the Reddit user posted.

August 8 is a sushi restaurant in Ontario, Canada. The couple had such a nice time, it inspired the name for their baby.

The poster is worried, however, that naming their child after a sushi restaurant is strange. They can’t decide whether or not it’s a good idea.

Most people assured them it’s still a good name in the comments.

One said: “I'm going to vote ‘cute’ because it's a positive association and the name can still stand on its own when people don't know the story (which most people won't).”

Another wrote: “I think a component of your choice is that you like the name August. If the restaurant had been called Sushi Express you presumably wouldn’t have considered naming your child after the location.

I think that when you combine the fact that it is a socially acceptable name for a boy that you aren’t opposed to as well as the fact that it’s a name of a location affiliated with a big milestone conversation - it’s a wonderful decision.”
