Clark County Detention Center installing new HVAC units

Recently, the county was informed about the lack of air conditioning at the Clark County Detention Center.

According to a press release from the Clark County Detention Center, Jailer Frank Doyle and members of the Clark County Fiscal Court have been diligently working for over one year to address the matter. This process officially began in October 2022 and included financing, bidding for the job, and building HVAC units.

As a complicated matter, the 34-year-old building at 30 Wall Street had older units that were obsolete, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units had to be custom-made to fit. Though time-consuming, the units were built and previously ready at the installation company. However, controllers that work the units came from a separate company and needed to be obtained, thus delaying installation.

Once all parts and units were gathered with the installation company, the first unit was placed on Saturday, June 29, with the second set for installation on Saturday, July 6. At that time, the Clark County Detention Center insisted that uncomfortable conditions at CCDC be addressed and that the facility return to regular operating conditions.

In the interim, CCDC notes having placed portable air conditioning units in the cell blocks, along with fans, ice, and water, to provide a safe environment for inmates.

Acknowledging that the long-standing issue has impacted both the inmates and staff of the facility, CCDC apologizes for the inconvenience caused to all involved and is pleased that this issue will be finally resolved.
