Some households should have automatically received school clothing allowance benefits for each school-aged child in the home by the end of June:

    • Those who currently receive WV WORKS assistance.
    • Foster care homes.
    • Households that receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with incomes under 130% of the Federal Poverty Level.

Additionally, the DoHS said in a press release that families who received clothing allowance in 2023 and currently have Medicaid coverage should have received a school clothing allowance program application by mail in late June.

The program uses an electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card in place of a traditional paper voucher in an effort to allow recipients to make online transactions and broaden their choices. Guardians of children in foster care will receive the school clothing allowance benefit as a check.

Those who have not received an application can apply online or contact their local DoHS county office or the Office of Constituent Services’ Customer Service Center at 1-877-716-1212 to request a paper application via mail.

Applications must be received by July 31, 2024, the DoHS said.
