Kaiju No. 8 wrapped up its first season over the weekend, with the smash hit anime series ending with a bombastic episode that we won’t spoil — you’ll just have to watch it for yourself. Following the finale, fans were left wondering if the series would be returning for a second season, but thankfully they didn’t have to wait long.

Crunchyroll confirmed shortly after the release of the season 1 finale that Kaiju No. 8 will be returning for a second season. Crunchyroll will be streaming the series worldwide in over 200 countries and territories — basically everywhere outside of Japan.

Kaiju No. 8 is an anime and manga series about an alternate universe Tokyo where attacks from giant monsters called kaiju – think Godzilla – are a regular occurrence. The series follows Kafka, a washed up would-be hero who’s given up on his childhood dreams of fighting for Tokyo before a chance encounter with a kaiju puts him back on the path.

Here’s the official synopsis, courtesy of Crunchyroll:

In a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju, Kafka Hibino aspired to enlist in The Defense Force. He makes a promise to enlist with his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro. Soon, life takes them in separate ways. While employed cleaning up after Kaiju battles, Kafka meets Reno Ichikawa. Reno’s determination to join The Defense Force reawakens Kafka’s promise to join Mina and protect humanity.

The first season of the anime started in April, and lasted for 12 episodes. The series has been dubbed by Crunchyroll, too, albeit on a slight, two-week delay. The dubbed finale is set to air on Crunchyroll on July 13, 2024.

We talked with the English cast of Kaiju No. 8 last month, with Nazeeh Tarsha (Kafka Hibino), Adam McArthur (Reno Ichikawa), and Abigail Blythe (Kikoru Shinomiya) answering our – and your – burning questions about the series, the process of recording it, and so much more.
