AOC to File ‘Articles of Impeachment’ Following Supreme Court Immunity Ruling: ‘Corruption Crisis Beyond Its Control’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) announced on Monday she intends to file articles of impeachment following the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity.

“The Supreme Court has become consumed by a corruption crisis beyond its control,” she wrote on X. “Today’s ruling represents an assault on American democracy. It is up to Congress to defend our nation from this authoritarian capture. I intend on filing articles of impeachment upon our return.”

In a partial victory for Donald Trump , the Supreme Court ruled on Monday in a 6-3 vote that presidents have absolute immunity for “official acts” taken while president. A dissenting opinion from Justice Sonia Sotomayor suggesting someone like Trump could now assassinate political rivals has led critics to sound alarms over the ruling.

MSNBC legal analyst Neal Katyal referred to it as a “blueprint for how to end the rule of law.”

Ocasio-Cortez has been a vocal critic of the Supreme Court in recent years. During a House Oversight hearing last month, she accused Justice Clarence Thomas of being guilty of “comical” corruption , pointing to the recent revelation he’s received millions in gifts over the years. She’s also floated impeaching Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade , accusing them of lying about their stances on abortion during their confirmations.

Impeaching a Supreme Court Justice would be quite an uphill climb as the only Supreme Court Justice to ever be impeached was Associate Justice Samuel Chase all the way back in 1804, and he was later acquitted in the Senate the following year. Justice Abe Fortas also resigned in 1969 under threat of impeachment. A total of 15 federal judges have been impeached in U.S. history.
