A Consumer Alert has been issued for a restaurant in Squirrel Hill.

The Allegheny County Health Department says Kiin Lao & Thai Eatery on Forbes Avenue was hit with five violations.

Four of the violations were considered “medium risk” with one labeled “high”.

The biggest issue was cooked beef and chicken temped between 52 and 53 degrees in a walk-in cooler, well above the safe temperature of 41 degrees or lower.

Shell egg and cooked rice noodles temped at 52 degrees were thrown away during the inspection.

“Based on conversations with the owner and the lead cook, determined that the cooked chicken and beef were still within safe time parameters for cooling, and relocated to the tall one door reachin cooler to finish cooling to 41F in the next two hours,” the inspection report reads.

Other violations include a walk-in refrigerator temped at 48 degrees, no thermometer used to temperature food in the walk-in and the Certified Food Protection Manager arrived late to the inspection. A CFPM must be always on the property during operating hours.

According to the safety report, a re-inspection is planned for July 8, 2024.

The restaurant is allowed to continue to operate during the Consumer Alert and a yellow place card is put on the front of the establishment.
