Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) hit back at former President Trump for reposting a meme that suggested Cheney committed “treason.”

“Donald — This is the type of thing that demonstrates yet again that you are not a stable adult— and are not fit for office,” she wrote on social platform X .

Cheney was responding to a post from MeidasTouch, which shared a screenshot of Trump reposting a meme on his Truth Social media platform. The meme suggested that Cheney should be prosecuted in televised military tribunals, but it’s not clear for what.

The meme said, “Elizabeth Lynne Cheney is guilty of treason” and “Retruth if you want televised military tribunals.” Trump “retruthed” the meme, which was posted Sunday .

Trump previously called for Cheney to be prosecuted over allegations she and the other Jan. 6 select committee members purposely withheld testimony and details from their investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attacks at the Capitol. Cheney has pushed back on these calls, saying that he knows “these are lies.”

Cheney served as vice chair of the House Jan. 6 committee and has emerged as one of the top GOP critics of the former president. She lost her seat in 2022 following her role on the committee.

House Republicans have tried in recent months to discredit the initial findings of the Jan. 6 committee. Trump called for members of the House panel investigating Jan. 6 to be indicted last month after a federal judge ordered his longtime ally Steve Bannon to report to jail.

“The unAmerican Weaponization of our Law Enforcement has reached levels of Illegality never thought possible before,” Trump posted last month. “INDICT THE UNSELECT J6 COMMITTEE FOR ILLEGALLY DELETING AND DESTROYING ALL OF THEIR ‘FINDINGS!’”

Bannon reported to federal prison in Connecticut on Monday over his contempt of Congress charges for defying a subpoena from the House committee investigating the riots.

The Hill has reached out to Trump’s campaign for comment.
