    Independence Day celebration returns to Fort Gregg-Adams, featuring local American Idol contestant

    PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Fort Gregg-Adams Independence Day Celebration is returning this year and will feature a live performance from American Idol contestant Carrie Brockwell.

    Join Fort Gregg-Adams in celebrating America’s independence on Wednesday, July 3 from 5 to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

    At the Independence Day Celebration, attendees can expect more than 20 food trucks onsite, as well as line dancing, Soldier singing competitions and a KidZone with bouncy houses, sports and climbing walls.

    The U.S. Army TRADOC Band will be performing, as well as American Idol contestant and Chesterfield County native Carrie Brockwell at 7:15 p.m.

    Beginning at 9 p.m., the “Salute the Union” tribute will take place on the stage and honor the 50 states with cannon blasts. The celebration will conclude with fireworks at 9:35 p.m.

    Visitors that are ages 18 and older will need to present a valid driver’s license or government issued ID for admission.

    The following is not permitted: personal pyrotechnics, tailgating, tents, umbrellas, glass bottles, smoking, backpacks, coolers and pets. Clear plastic and mesh bags that are see-through are allowed.

    If it rains, the event will be postponed to Thursday, July 4.

    According to the U.S. Army, Lt. Gen. Arthur J. Gregg is the Army’s first African American three-star general and namesake of one of the Army logistics awards. Adams led the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, resulting in excelling in its mission accomplished in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.
