GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A project to build a new trail connection in Greenville County has received more than $20 million from a federal grant program.

The Sans Souci Connecter was awarded $20,335,170 as part of the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program.

The project will add 2.2 miles of shared-use path, five grade separations, and e-bike charging stations, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The new trail will connect to the Swamp Rabbit Trail just northwest of West Blue Ridge Drive near the site of a planned billion-dollar redevelopment project.

Third lane open on I-85 northbound in Cherokee Co.

Plans show the trail following Langston Creek for a large portion of the route before ending at Poinsett Highway.

Bridges are planned to carry the new trail over Poinsett Highway, North Franklin Road, and Old Buncombe Road, plans show.

Construction on the new trail is expected to begin in February 2026.

The Sans Souci Connecter project is one of 148 projects throughout the country, and the only one in South Carolina, to receive money with this wave of grants.
