    Pedestrian killed while crossing highway in Anne Arundel County

    ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Maryland State Police (MSP) said a pedestrian died after they were hit by a vehicle while trying to cross U.S. Route 50 early Monday morning.

    At around 4:30 a.m., troopers were called out for an unresponsive vehicle stopped on the road near the eastbound U.S. Route 50, west of Maryland Route 424.

    Once at the scene, MSP found a Lexus on the right shoulder.

    Troopers determined that the person was trying to cross the westbound span of Route 50, when they were hit by the Lexus.

    State police said the pedestrian died at the scene. Their name has not yet been released.

    As investigators worked, two lanes on U.S. Route 50 were blocked off, but have since reopened.

    MSP said the driver remained at the scene. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be sent to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office, who will decide if charges will be filed.
