Nintendo Switch 2 Scalping Won’t Be an Issue, President Says

Nintendo is confident that the company can prevent Switch 2 scalping from being a problem. PS5 and Series X users no doubt remember the widespread scalping that both took advantage of and worsened the console’s shortages at launch. While Switch shortages weren’t as extreme, Nintendo also struggled to meet demand over the last few years. However, if Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa is correct, Switch 2 users won’t need to worry about that particular frustration.

How will Nintendo avoid Switch 2 scalping?

The executive addressed concerns about console resales in a recent shareholder meeting, as VGC reported. The company’s president explained that the best way to prevent Switch 2 scalping is to produce enough consoles to meet demand. That sounds easier said than done, but the executive is confident that Nintendo will succeed now that the global semiconductor shortage is long over.

“Last year and the year before, we were unable to produce sufficient quantities of Nintendo Switch hardware due to a shortage of semiconductor components, but this situation has now been resolved,” Furukawa explained. “At present, we do not believe that the shortage of components will have a significant impact on the production of the successor model.” He also said the company is “taking into account the circumstances in each region.”

The company still hasn’t officially revealed what most people are calling the Switch 2, though it’s not a secret either. Some reports indicate that the next console will launch in 2025. Furukawa also previously revealed that Nintendo intends to unveil the Switch’s successor in the 2024 fiscal year, which ends March 2025.
