This is a simple yet crucial step that we sometimes overlook. Bethany @ bethanynking emphasizes the importance of reading the recipe in its entirety before we get started, whether we're baking or cooking. It's a great way to prevent disaster and disappointment. She shares, "There's nothing worse than getting halfway through a recipe only to find out it needs to be refrigerated overnight." I've been there and done that. It's even more frustrating when it's something you've made before but have forgotten that crucial step. Some recipes can tolerate only a few hours of refrigeration and still be okay, while others need that extra time for the flavors to develop.

    Tips for Successful Baking

    1. Unless a recipe states otherwise, bring butter, cream cheese, milk, and eggs to room temperature before starting. If you forget to take out your eggs, you can bring them up to temperature in a bowl of warm water.

    2. Check the date on baking powder . An expired batch can result in baked goods that won't rise.

    3. Prepare your pans and preheat the oven before you begin mixing ingredients.

    4. Before starting, gather all required items, especially when preparing a recipe with a lengthy ingredient list . After I've added them, I like to move my ingredients from right to left to ensure I don't miss one or double up on another.

    5. Although cooking has some leeway with precise measurements, baking does not. Spooning flour into your measuring cups or, better yet, using a scale can help ensure you're adding the correct amounts.

    6. Always set a timer a few minutes before the recommended minimum cooking time. This allows you to check and see if your foods need more or less time in the oven, depending on your altitude or oven temperature.

    7. Have fun! No matter what, cooking and baking should be a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Sometimes, despite our hard work, things don't turn out as planned. However, having a sense of humor about these mishaps can give us a good laugh. And there's always something to be learned from every experience.
